The most important thing to realize in body language is when you get nervous, you try to cover your Vital Organs, that’s why you see lots of people fold their hands bring their hands in front of them and that’s the sign of Nervousness.
Great speakers keep their body open, so there is no barrier between you and me, and something that when you are starting about is “Keep your Body Open”.
“Have your Palms Open”, Try this exercise –Take a glance at your palms, Flip them around, Take a glance at inside of palms once again. If you concentrate when you look at the inside of your palm, your eye relaxes. A lot of great speakers Open their Palms towards the audience showing the openness and that shows the audience connect with the people better. Don’t show the back of your hand.
“Get Comfy with the Stage”, when you are comfy with the stage you are speaking on – will let you to move around and use body language. If you are not comfy on the stage and feel foreign on that stage what happens is your body starts to constrict and you begin to hide your body. Whatever you do but don’t touch the Podium! As soon as you do that you are going to lean on the podium, shaking the podium and so on. Keep a comfortable distance between the podiums. You can keep your notes on it or use your hands to gesture instead.
