Trekking as we know is going on a long arduous journey, typically on foot on a terrain. Sometimes it gives pleasure. It gives pain too when things do not go the way we wanted.  Reasons could be many. Many a times in the journey we learn from our mistakes and thereby, we remember not to repeat the mistakes for a more enjoyable trekking experience.

Career is also a journey. Before we go for trekking, we plan and organise. Preparation and common sense are important in the journey.

To have a sustainable career, it too needs preparation and decision making at many stages.

It is said that if you have a WAH within you, it can help you curve a path to success. What is WAH?

W: Willingness (Attitude / Positive mindset)

A: Ability (Aptitude, knowledge, skill)

H: Habits (developing and maintaining good habits)

If we deeply introspect and delve into detailing, a host of soft skills (behavioral skills / leadership skills) in addition to mastering the technical / functional skills are needed to build an agile professional development journey.

Communication skills: Communication is the art of expressing one in an articulate manner

Confidence: Belief in one’s ability to succeed

Character: It is the combination of mental qualities and moral values distinctive to an individual

Tips to build an agile professional development plan

  3. Express Gratitude to everyone who helps you
  4. Assess your success
  5. Ask for help if you need
  6. Make a wise career choice
  7. Volunteer for a role in the organisation to increase your visibility
  8. Explore what keeps you energetic and motivated
  9. Read a biography that inspire you
  10. Join an association or professional body
  11. Visualise your ideal working day
  12. Listen to inspirational podcasts
  13. Ask yourself “when do the lose track of time?”
  14. Update your LinkedIn profile
  15. Focus on WHO you want to be

  17. Write a journal to express your feelings and goals
  18. Do not compare yourself with others
